Originally the Meuse-Rhine Triangle was an industrial area. But down the years the region has captured more than its share of new economic developments. International companies have found ideal locations here for their European operations. Medtronic, Ford and Ericsson Eurolab have their European research centres here; Boston Scientific, Sony, Mercedes Benz, DHL and TNT have established contact centres and logistics operations - proof of the attractiveness of the investment climate.

A further example of the dynamism of the region is the turnaround of the former chemical giant DSM. This global player is now spreading its interests into life sciences and advanced materials. And the network is constantly growing. New companies are establishing in the region and the concentration of knowledge and research centres leads to strong spin-off activity from the region's main universities: RWTH Aachen University, University of Liège and Universiteit Maastricht.
